Q&A with Jackson Aw of Mighty Jaxx ("Bad Apple" is "Best Resin" for #DesignerToyAwards2013)

The GOIN designed "Bad Apple" was crowned BEST RESIN at the recent 2013 Designer Toy Awards, and TOYSREVIL had a wee Q&A with Jackson Aw of Mighty Jaxx; the producers of this highly sought after collectible!


TOYSREVIL: Congrats on the win! Was it something you had imagined would happen, with Mighty Jaxx?

JACKSON AW: Thanks Andy! When we heard of the DTA, we thought it is a pretty cool initiative for the toy community, but other than that, we did not work towards it as a goal. I think it is apparent that we devoted ourselves to creating works of art. That said, it is a pleasant surprise, largely because we are only 1 year old, and certainly gave us more confidence to pursue what we are doing.

TOYSREVIL: What do you think is the "sole reason" for Bad Apple's win?

JACKSON AW: I believe it is the fact that Bad Apple is so recognizable and people can relate to the art work done by GOIN. Also unlike some artworks, it is simple and people can understand it in one glance. It's really amazing how successful it is as when we started with the figure, the sole reason is that we want it on our desk, that's why we made it. I guess alot more people relate to it too and that's cool.

"Little Boy" - 100,000 Horsepower Bust by Sonny Liew x Mighty Jaxx

Fresh off his Sold Out Pinnochio resin figure made with Vinyl On Vinyl, local illustrator Sonny Liew is set to release another brand new collectible with Mighty Jaxx, with his rendition of Astroboy (based on the Tezuka and Manhattan Project-inspired “100,000 Horsepower“)! Signature Version BRAINLINGTON by EWOKONE x Mighty Jaxx on Pre-Order Oct 18/19

After it's (prototype) display debut at New York Comic Con but a few days ago, Mighty jaxx announces the upcoming release of EWOKONE's BRAINLINGTON - with it's first edition being the Signature version, featuring a gloss black base, and hand embellished with vibrant colours.

Priced at USD$65 each, this 8” tall vinyl art figure (which I had initially thought was a resin piece ;p) is in a limited edition of 100. Do note the image shown above os of the figure's bums!

BRAINLINGTON by EwokOne x Mighty Jaxx for #NYCC

BRAINLINGTON by EwokOne is set to debut at NYCC, but only available as a an email sign up / pre-order, exclusively via the Toy Tokyo booth #101 (in "The Block"), whereby you will be contacted directly by producers Mighty Jaxx, and be given a "secret link" that will allow you to secure your actual NYCC version of BRAINLINGTON. And although @mrewokone is scheduled to be present at Toy Tokyo for signings, the item will not be able to reach the venue in time. (Further details).

Nevertheless, check out these WIP images, and also expect 5 different colorways - released in different size editions - to come.

We last featured BRAINLINGTON HERE, and am looking forward to see the different colorways to be had!

Skull Bomb by Jason Freeny x Mighty Jaxx

"Skull Bomb has been signed off into the very capable hands of Singapore based Mighty Jaxx for production. Stay tuned ... Hoping to have some life sized 36" versions in the future. Even I'm excited about this one "… -mentioned Jason Freeny (on his Facebook).

And it is an inspired design from Freeny that is not anatomically dissected based, which I thoroughly enjoy. The deceptively simplistic design makes it more haunting that it seems, IMHO, "Death dropped from above" or traveling underwater …

If this was to be produced in "vinyl", it would be utterly awesome to have DIY blanks available too, methinks! Further details to be update when I have them :)

myplasticheart for #NYCC 2013: Sideways & Akashi 5YL

While being absolutely silent on releases for SDCC, myplasticheart seems to be going full force for the coming October New York Comic Con, with releases being teased now, starting with the above NYCC-Edition SIDEWAYS from Yoskay Yamamoto, with this exclusive colorway produced by Mighty Jaxx. Priced at US$85 and limited to 100pcs. Yoskay will also be in attendance and will be signing at the mph booth #113 (in "The Block" section). Time and date to be announced'


Next up is Dave Bondi's AKASHI 5YL - with this edition you see here being the updated version of the Mickey/Mario inspired mashup created by sculptor, animator, artist himself. Available for US$65 in a run of only 50 pieces. Dave will also be in attendance at NYCC and will be signing at the mph booth (Time and date to be announced).

SKL0 "Live" Art for #STGCC Mighty Jaxx booth (Aug 31)

Local artist SKL0 (of urban collective RSCLS) will be doing live art at the Mighty Jaxx booths G6/G8/G10 at Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention on Saturday, August 31st at around 2pm. Go on and go show here sum love, people! As well you are able to pre-order her CULTURED series of resins too = Big Ups for Local Artists!

A Closer Look at "CULTURED" by SKL0 x Mighty Jaxx (pre-order at #STGCC 2013)

This needs to have it's own blogpost, with Mighty Jaxx producing local artist SKL0's concept piece named "CULTURED" (Previously Featured) with a play on something folks might have on their refrigerator.

The conceptual tagline goes: "A play and commentary on our unique local culture"

Frankly I was not too "convinced" of (sorry, Sam!), but just as soon changed my tune when I held a proto in my hand, when I visited the MJ-HQ. It was not similar sized as the regular drink is, and the heft of the resin piece somewhat lends itself to the weight of the issue, giving further depth to the humor in the text printed on the piece: "More Cultured Than YOU Will Ever Be".

And the aesthetic touches - like the debossed text and SKL0's logo - made it a fun piece to be had. Hey, I'm a grapefruit-fan (*raises hands if you love Ribena* lol) so the purple piece brought a smile to my face. Now if the set came shrink-wrapped (with subversive text printed on it, of course), it would be awesome haha!


Each colorway (4 "flavors" to choose from) is priced at SGD$50 per, while a set of the complete four is SGD$170. Pre-orders will be available at the Mighty Jaxx booths G6 / G8 / G10 at Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention 2013, with a late-October 2013 ship out.

Samantha Lo is also a fellow RSCLS member as Clogtwo, who's Hell Lotus was MJ's first ever release, and this notion both excites and puts a proud smile on my face. Locals Represent!

Mighty Jaxx for #STGCC 2013

Check out the newly released Mighty Jaxx STGCC General Price List - all items in a handy single image, and info that their booth accepts cash and every major credit cards!

Truth be told, I was in a dilemma, on how to present goodies from Mighty Jaxx lined-up for this coming weekend's Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention 2013 - whether they be done via individual feature posts, or otherwise in one gargantuan post, for which I have decided the latter - with image support from my Facebook album! (The japanese brands they are reppin' will be in another blogpost).

To be made available at booths G6 / G8 / G10 at Artist Alley, here are what is in store from the hot new brand MIGHTY JAXX!




Goin's BAD APPLE will be available in two editions, with the black+white figure and white grenade debut recently at WonderFest (the red grenade edition has apparently since sold out), but what got my firm attention, and yes, unbridled toy-lust, was the CLEAR EDITION, looking like it was carved from ice, and my pictures do not do it justice.

Limited to only 30 pieces, they will be priced at SGD$250 per for the Clear Edition.


what has been revealed before, is the STGCC-Exclusive SIDEWAYS from Yoskay Yamamoto, and it is heftier than I imagined! Lined up next to the early SDCC and TTF Exclusive, they are indeed yummy, no exaggeration here!

The STGCC-Exclusive is priced at SGD$100 per.



TAU POK KING is a collaboration between DEVILROBOTS and the sculpting talents of Daniel Yu, with extremely limited quantities of the BLACK and WHITE versions available at STGCC (The GOLD Version is an exclusive to the show "Unbreakable" now on at LaSalle).

What is launching exclusively at STGCC, are custom hand-painted TOFU CHEESE HEADS! 3 colorway editions to choose from, each limited to only 5 pieces, SGD$50 each. Tis obvious I had quite an amount of fun with them heehee


I call these "The Three Wise Skuhls", with GOLD being the STGCC-Exclusive (priced at SGD$200 each and limited to only 10 pieces). The mini-skuhl comes with Clogtwo's MachineMouth book, which will also be available for sales at STGCC. clogtwo will be in attendance (scheduled unconfirmed) which would be perfect for his to sign in the book, in case you missed purchasing it at his show earlier this year.



Debuting for public display at STGCC is SAILOR TRIXIE from Andrew Hickinbottom, with this sweet gal available for pre-order at SGD$120 per (for a late-october ship out), limited to 200 pieces. More like a marquette than "toy", the prototype i saw and touched (*cough*) was pretty darn desirable, IMHO.


Also available for sale at this weekend's event, are their HUG, LOVE BOMB with phunk!, Plastic Foundary's INFERIOR TROOPERS, and even Daniel Yu's Deep Orange Edition CRAWDAD KID from OMFG Series 1. Seriously? Get your cashmonies ready, and get wild at Mighty Jaxx's at STGCC MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Visiting Mighty Jaxx

TOYSREVIL had the opportunity to step into Mighty Jaxx-HQ at Joo Chiat this fine rainy Wednesday, and went away with tons of snaps - which I will post stat once I've sorted them out - but not without a teaser of things to come (posted on my Instagram @toysrevil), primarily for sale at their booth this coming weekend's Singapore Toy Games and Comic Convention 2013 at Sands Expo Convention Center, Marina Bay Sands! And believe you me, get ready your spending monies, because they are THE goodness to phat up your toy-collection with - no hyperbole on my part!

Custom Tau Pok King by Daniel Yu for #STGCC 2013

Daniel Yu teases us with an extreme close-up of a custom - no doubt to be his Tau Pok King - from a collaboration with DEVILROBOTS' To-Fu figure. Expect it to debut at the Mighty Jaxx's Artist Alley booths G6/G8/G10 at STGCC for when the event launches August 31st thru to September 1st at the Sands Expo Convention Hall at Marina Bay Sands.

Yesterday I posted an image of the GIANT SKUHL by Clogtwo in WHITE … today we get to see it in GOLD color, and it is to be had from Mighty Jaxx as a Con-exclusive for STGCC - limited to only 10 pieces and priced at USD$160 per (???)

Mighty Jaxx announces that Clogtwo's GIANT SKUHL in White will be debuting in STGCC for the first time! And while neither quantities nor prices are revealed as yet, this baby is quite the huge collectible, indeed! (Moelled below by the gorgeous @gabriellam).

Mighty Jaxx has announced on their Facebook events page that there will be a new colorway of Yoskay Yamamoto's SIDEWAYS made available at the coming STGCC (Aug 31-Sept 1). And while price is not revealed at this time, know that this STGCC-exclusive edition will be limited to only 100 sets (not sure how many will actually be at the Con, so don't dally if you want them!), look for them at Artist Alley booths G6/G8/G10!
